Licence Information

Scope of the Licence
There are two types of licences: a Test Licence and a Trial Licence.

Both licence types allow the testing of wireless devices and systems in Ireland, while a Trial Licence also allows the participation of external businesses and consumers in the trial.

Licence Duration
Licences are typically granted for up to one year, but users can re-apply to extend their licences if more time is required.

Licence Fees
The fees for these licences are set at an inexpensive level in order to stimulate research and innovation at all levels.

The annual fee is €200 for a Test Licence and €500 for a Trial Licence.
Licences with a shorter duration are scaled per month downwards subject to a minimum fee of €100.

Licence Turnaround Time
ComReg is committed to turning around licence applications as soon as possible - that typically means within 10 days of receipt of a completed application.

Trinity College Dublin, as part of the Centre for Telecommunications Value-Chain Research (CTVR), used Test and Trial Ireland to test reconfigurable software-based radio and dynamic spectrum management techniques.

"The ability to realistically test our research ideas in clean, dedicated spectrum has enabled us to significantly advance our reconfigurable radio system and opens the potential for us to convert our high-quality academic output into exploitable Intellectual Property."

Professor Linda Doyle, Trinity College Dublin and CTVR.
